“Sexy “

Posted in Uncategorized on May 9, 2011 by arclitblog

I really like this story, sexy by Jhumpa Lahiri. It conveys everyday  issues with couples and marriages and infidelity. I like  how Miranda likes dev and is having an affair on her husband..because she doesnt feel sexy, and Dev definityly makes her feel sexy. Dev is mysterious and she needs mystery in her life…I think that sometimes it takes doing something wrong to acknowledge what you have. Mirandas friends knows of some people going through the same thing, and it makes Miranda feel awful that shes doing that to her husband and doesnt like the idea of him doing that to her. It had a lot to do with lust, and thats why i like most of the story, and how it connects to real people. In real life, a lot of people thing that they are “in love’ but truely, they are “in lust”. Miranda learns that she doesnt really know anything at all about this guy Dev, and what shes doing to her husband is really not fair. She breaks everything off I guess to somehow salvage her marriage, and ultimitly shes a good person who made a terriable mistake, but it did spice up her life, and in that aspect, her husband was not giving her what she needed, so she got it elsewhere.

Homage to my hips

In general…I absolutly love it!!!

To me, shes like an earthy woman who just basicilly loves herself and her hips! Most girls are, well shy about their hips, and she uses ways to embrace them… her hips are free, and need space to move because they are big and free! I love this because, I have big hips! I used to hate them, but like she said in her poem, these hips could and have put a spell on a man!

Wishes for sons

another awesome poem, talking about tampons, and what a bitch that sons, fathers, brothers the male race does not have to use them, worry about being a week late or have cramps. I wish them on every male, pms and all! One week early wearing a white skirt!! Ahh what women have to go through, men have no idea!!!

Miss Rosie

A more deep poem, maybe she feels like a brown bag of emptyness, because she once was very gorgeous, a georga rose! I think she feels destructed, I dont know if shes talking of someone else or of herself in third person. She says wet brown bag of a women, maybe she lost her shape, and feels like a plain brown bag, wet…coming apart. I totally feel this way…once youthfull and now overweight in my prime.

Ernest Hemingway

I looked up Mr. Hemingway, because I felt like his literature was good, as well as his biography! For one, the man was handsome! And for two, his death seems very tragic, killing himself with is favorite shot got, I didnt really quite understand why he felt like the FBI was after him!But then again, he had a lot of shock therapy. Also, it seems that committing suicicide happend a lot, four generations.  I also learned that in Berlin, they burned his books, people thought of it as lazy and ” filth “.

The Snows of Kilimanjaro

The story takes place in Aftrica! Evenidently, the girl, who is Henrys significant other, is trying to help him out because of his leg, trying to give him the will to stay strong, and not give up, she keeps on mentioning that once you give up, that its not good, and you’ll go if you do give up, but Henry has no desire to get well, wait for a truck or plane, he just wants to quarrel because he feels that it passes the time. I like how the girl, is telling him to hold on, it shows that her character has strength, and compassion, that she really cares for Henry. “Please tell me what I can do. There must be something I can do.’ (2243)
