“Sexy “

Posted in Uncategorized on May 9, 2011 by arclitblog

I really like this story, sexy by Jhumpa Lahiri. It conveys everyday  issues with couples and marriages and infidelity. I like  how Miranda likes dev and is having an affair on her husband..because she doesnt feel sexy, and Dev definityly makes her feel sexy. Dev is mysterious and she needs mystery in her life…I think that sometimes it takes doing something wrong to acknowledge what you have. Mirandas friends knows of some people going through the same thing, and it makes Miranda feel awful that shes doing that to her husband and doesnt like the idea of him doing that to her. It had a lot to do with lust, and thats why i like most of the story, and how it connects to real people. In real life, a lot of people thing that they are “in love’ but truely, they are “in lust”. Miranda learns that she doesnt really know anything at all about this guy Dev, and what shes doing to her husband is really not fair. She breaks everything off I guess to somehow salvage her marriage, and ultimitly shes a good person who made a terriable mistake, but it did spice up her life, and in that aspect, her husband was not giving her what she needed, so she got it elsewhere.

Homage to my hips

In general…I absolutly love it!!!

To me, shes like an earthy woman who just basicilly loves herself and her hips! Most girls are, well shy about their hips, and she uses ways to embrace them… her hips are free, and need space to move because they are big and free! I love this because, I have big hips! I used to hate them, but like she said in her poem, these hips could and have put a spell on a man!

Wishes for sons

another awesome poem, talking about tampons, and what a bitch that sons, fathers, brothers the male race does not have to use them, worry about being a week late or have cramps. I wish them on every male, pms and all! One week early wearing a white skirt!! Ahh what women have to go through, men have no idea!!!

Miss Rosie

A more deep poem, maybe she feels like a brown bag of emptyness, because she once was very gorgeous, a georga rose! I think she feels destructed, I dont know if shes talking of someone else or of herself in third person. She says wet brown bag of a women, maybe she lost her shape, and feels like a plain brown bag, wet…coming apart. I totally feel this way…once youthfull and now overweight in my prime.

I looked up Mr. Hemingway, because I felt like his literature was good, as well as his biography! For one, the man was handsome! And for two, his death seems very tragic, killing himself with is favorite shot got, I didnt really quite understand why he felt like the FBI was after him!But then again, he had a lot of shock therapy. Also, it seems that committing suicicide happend a lot, four generations.  I also learned that in Berlin, they burned his books, people thought of it as lazy and ” filth “.

The Snows of Kilimanjaro

The story takes place in Aftrica! Evenidently, the girl, who is Henrys significant other, is trying to help him out because of his leg, trying to give him the will to stay strong, and not give up, she keeps on mentioning that once you give up, that its not good, and you’ll go if you do give up, but Henry has no desire to get well, wait for a truck or plane, he just wants to quarrel because he feels that it passes the time. I like how the girl, is telling him to hold on, it shows that her character has strength, and compassion, that she really cares for Henry. “Please tell me what I can do. There must be something I can do.’ (2243)

William Faulkner

Well, the “A rose for Emily’ seemed pretty confusing to me. I get that her dad didnt think anyone was good for her, so she stayed alone, he basiclly stoled her youth, so her dad was all she had so maybe thats why she took it so hard and was in denial for three days when he died. The town felt sorry for her, but as the new generations came, they didnt think they should feel sorry for her and pay the taxes…I think emily is sick. I’m confused on if Mr. Barron died because of the rat poisin or what, but if he was last seen with her , then why didnt any one look? Emily is super off to me, and I dont think anyone should have felt sorry for because of her dad or the guy, too many people in the town got involved with her life, and I think she was never able to live it because of their involvment! The town sounds like my town, Mission! Its super small and everybody knows everyones buisness!

As for the author Sir William, I like how hes from the south and a lot of his work had to do with his home missisippi. I looked him up and found that he even went to hollywood to do a screen play and got paid very well, and he also won the Noble prize of literature. Pretty cool! But the two storys that we read, to me,were not very interesting.

“The Road Not Taken”

The road not taken is a VERY famous poem, one of the poems I reconize the most for all over our readings. I actually have this poem written in brown paper hung up in my room. Its simple. I think that this is just a poem that defines life and decesions. Had I not done this, would this be different. Hes trying to say that every road has a path, and depending on what path you decide to take, that will lead your life in a different journey. We as human beings and or college students always wonder, if I would have chosen this career first, i could have been this or if i didnt mess up so bad freshmen year, i would be done with school by now! It shows lifes complexity. Everyone wonders what if, and if you would have taken the road not taken, events would have turned out differently.

“Fire and Ice”

This is also another poem I know! yay! This poem appers in one of the Twilights saga movie. Ice describes hate, and fire describes desire. This in my opinion is about perishing in desire, but people know enough hate to perish with the destruction of ice. Awesome poem, I think i’m gonna hang this one on my wall as well

“This is just to say”

I feel like this poem is simple and to the point, or at first it seemed so.  I read it about five times over and over again to get the meaning, and I feel like its more complex then simple, it just seems simple because its put in simple words. I think the person left this as a note, perhaps to his significant other, and hes asking for forgiveness for something so small, but maybe hes seeking forgivenss for something more big. Maybe hes having an affair, and he wants to say hes sorry, “Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so cold.” Maybe the fling was delecious, sweet yet cold because it was meaningless! (2015) If only people felt that guilty for extra affairs nowadays!

“The Red Wheelbarrow”

This poem seems simple also, its set up in two stanzas and its filled with simplicity, but its more than that. It makes me as a reader think, its more then just about a red wheelbarrow. The red wheelbarrow is something that someone depends on ‘so much depends upon.” Perhaps this wheelbarrow is a man, and the woman or his lover needs him for shelter..”glazed with rain water beside the white chickens”. I think its their filled with water from the rain to feed the chickens hence feed his lover. Ahh and it could mean lots of other things too!!!

In my the poem Mid-day, I feel like doolittle feels defeated in the mans world of poetry. I think that she means that mens poetry is great, and she could never compare because shes a woman. “o poplar, you are great among the hill-stones, while I perish on the path amonth the crvices of rock” (2027)

“OREAD” This poem I feel is pretty straight foward. The poem describes nature at its best, I feel like she was inspired by the sea and natures beauty and how things just work magicilly. If you’ve gone to the beach, its awesome. I’ve gone to Santa Cruz beach, and to the see the ocean, the waves crashing into the rocks, where numerous sufers have hit, but they go out with a bang because they love their sport, its magical. So many people have a love for nature, and this describes her views, I think!

Leda, as i searched in the internet, is the girl who is raped by zues, so this has a bit to do with greek methology. I think Leda is the swan and the poem is describing the swan before it is or lida that is -is attacked by Zeus.

“Helen” is a silenced woman of beauty, and she cannot break the tradition of hate in Greece.

Well, out of all the poetry and stories that we have read in this class, I must say that this had to be the darkest out of all the selections. The Hollow Men, in my interpretation, is more about faith, faith in our world that perhaps at that time we were losing because the advancement of technology, hence weapons. It had a lot to do with war, and theirs not going out with a bang, because when every dies, its not a win situation for anyone, they go out in a wimper because of the people dead. I think he means, that everything and everyone is lost with out faith, your nothing when he says “In the valley of dying stars”. I really do enjoy the Love Song of J. Alfred Prufock. I can relate to that poem, because I feel that hes saying he wants to do great things, but he kinda feels like its too late for him and who is he to go out their, hes just a balding man! Sometimes I feel like I was limited to highschool, that after that, I havent done anything great, I feel to old, and life after highschool is OVER! But I guess an old dog can learn new tricks! Some of us cant be in touch with reality, and I think in this poem hes living in his fantasy world just fine, but reality is much too hard for him. “we have lingered in the chambers of sea by seagirls wreathed with seaweed red and brown till human voices wake us, and we drown” 2042

I think that it is horriable that the narrartor hides her thoughts from her husband by hiding her journal. She implies that he belittles her illness and deprives her from bteing creative by writing her stories and having freedom. John seems controlling of her and worries way too much. She needs more exciting, freedom and company, I think! I can not believe he refused to repaper the wall just because he did not want to give in to her. What a husband. Instead of going away to spend time with her and help her with her depression, he says that they are only their on her account. (1685) I think john tries to reassure her by sweet talking her. I have to say though, her obsession with the wall paper and its patterns are ridiculous and has a lot to do with her being so nervous, But she should be able to talk to johtalk witn, and she feels like she cant. “It is so hard to talk with John about my case, because he is so wishe and because he loves me so.” I feel like if their was a real companionship then he’d be her best friend and talking to him wouldn’t be so bad. Either way she still tries. She becomes very secreative, and towards the end of the story, she becomes insane!

Kate Chopin

I like how Kate Chopin wrote on instinct. I think that the creative process of writing is not putting much thought about it and just writing in pure instinct, kind of like free writing. Personally, I write a bit here and there, and I write whatever it is that inspires me, and just like kate, the “polishing up process” is the worst for me because its hard to change what seemed so brilliant to begin with. Later on in years, I’ll go back to my old writings, fix it, then it seems to me genious!Kate accomplished alot in her short time of writing, and I think that is awesome for a girl writer! Its great to hear that she wrote for vouge, I read and relate to that magazine all the time. I think the Cadian ball was a good story, but it was such bull that clarrise was so upset because she felt like the cajuns should not have been their because of social class. Clarisse character took social class seriously, much like the other characters in huck (the town people). The storm is more passionate and more of a love story which was not very commen to hear in 1898! “When he touched her breasts they gave themselves up in quivering ecstasy, inviting his lips.” (1614) I think the passion had to do with the storm. The more intense the passion, the more intense the storm.
